Agenda

On 28th June 2023, the DSF organised the roundtable discussion "The Future of Money: Digital Cash, CBDC, and Retail Payments in the Digital Era". The event, held at the Gustav Tuck Lecture Theatre at UCL, delved into these crucial matters pertaining to the digital transformation of finance, and was steered by Prof. Tomaso Aste from University College London, DSF grantee.

The forum brought together an assembly of thought leaders and experts. The panellists included Emilio Barucci from Politecnico Milano, Nick Davies from the International Chamber of Commerce, Geoffrey Goodell from UCL, Kelly-Ann Coulter from the Financial Conduct Authority, and Victoria Thompson from HSBC. The event saw a robust participation of 124 attendees, indicating a strong interest in the subject.

The roundtable covered the latest trends in financial innovation, exploring the multifaceted nature of Central Bank Digital Currencies and how they are reshaping the economic landscape. The discussion also shed light on the shifting dynamics of retail payments in the era of digitalisation and scrutinised the broader transformation of monetary frameworks in these times.

The prestige of the participants, representing industry, academia and policy, is illustrative of the DSF’s commitment to a knowledge-sharing collaborative model. We remain dedicated to this approach, and will continue bringing these parties together in the future.
