DLT Science Foundation Awards Grant to Peking University for “Decentralised Intelligence” Fintech Lab

London, UK — 9 May 2023 — The DLT Science Foundation (DSF), a global non-profit organisation dedicated to expanding knowledge and adoption of distributed ledger technology (DLT), announced today the awarding of a grant to Peking University for its new technology lab. The lab will conduct research at the intersection of web3, fintech and AI, also known as “decentralised intelligence.” The lab will be housed within the UK campus of Peking University’s HSBC Business School (PHBS).

Bringing together a multidisciplinary team of researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry partners to advance the field of web3 and AI, the PHBS Fintech Lab will conduct commercially viable research to drive real-world impact. It will also identify and fund startup concepts created by its postdoctoral researchers.

The lab is led by two founding researchers - Dr Alastair Moore and Professor Guy Liu. Liu is the head of the UK campus of Peking University’s HSBC Business School. As part of this partnership, he joins the DSF Scientific Committee, and Peking University joins the DLT Science Foundation’s established university network. Other partner institutions include the London School of Economics, the National University of Singapore, University College London, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and the University of Zurich.

"The growing adoption of emerging technologies is profoundly impacting the future of all industries and, subsequently, the world we live in. We are now at a crucial juncture in history as the convergence of fintech, AI, and blockchain revolutionises our society. The decisions we make now about how to develop and apply these technologies will have a lasting impact on the world. Therefore, we are honoured and delighted to be a part of launching the PHBS Fintech Lab at Peking University. This endeavour helps ensure resources are readily available to researchers who are driving these important advancements,” said Dr Paolo Tasca, chairman and co-founder of the DLT Science Foundation.

“We are thrilled to join the DSF University Network and connect with other top universities worldwide. Peking University is not only the top Asian university according to the Times Higher Education, but also one of the world's best in CoinDesk's blockchain university ranking. We are committed to driving cutting-edge research in the intersection of fintech, AI, and blockchain, and we believe that partnering with the DSF scales our capacity to do so. We look forward to contributing to the network's mission of advancing the field of blockchain. At the same time, we look forward to sharing our expertise with the wider DSF network,” said Liu.

The DSF continues to welcome new members and collaborations that promote the responsible adoption of DLT in business and society. To learn more about the DSF and its programmes, visit dltscience.org.
